Mr. Mikes RDP Athlete of the Week for March 13, 2023

After a stellar weekend in goal, goaltender Izzy Palumbo is this week’s Queens Athlete of the Week. She was huge for the Queens Hockey team this past week as she steered aside 48 shots and just let in two goals in the two playoff games against the Lakeland College Rustlers. Palumbo needed to be on her game. Between her and the Rustlers goaltender, she had more work as the Queens were outshot in both games. But it was the stellar performance that made Palumbo stand out from the other goaltender as she backstopped her team to a 2-0 series victory and a chance to win a second consecutive championship trophy. She also came up big when her team committed errors in the defensive zone. The Polytechnic is the defending champions after they swept the Olds College Broncos in last year’s final.

In the regular season, the Golden native just allowed six goals in five starts, had a 0.84 goals-against-average, a .944 save percentage and three shutouts.
