Lower and the Kings come out on top over Coleman and the Clippers in volleyball action

Caronport, SK, October 15, 2022 - The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Volleyball squad came away with a 3-1 win in Saskatchewan over the Briercrest Clippers.

The Kings would take the first two sets (25-21, 25-21) but the Clippers battled back and would take the third set 25-23. Red Deer would finish off the Clippers and would take the match with a 25-22 victory in the fourth set.

The Kings came ready to play and were swinging away. They finished off the first game with 15 kills compared to the Clippers nine. Even though the Kings did finish with seven errors in the first set, they would take the opening set 25-21.

For most of the second set, the Kings had a two-point lead. It was a very close game once again as expected. The Clippers and Red Deer are always neck and neck at the top of the South Division. Ultimately, it was the Kings who came out on top, taking the second set 25-21. They finished with 14 kills compared to the Clippers 11. The Kings were able to decrease their errors and finished the second set with only four.

The third set started out with some amazing defensive and offensive work from both sides. In particular, setter Maddux Greves was able to lay his body out on the line, pop up the ball and continue the rally for the Kings after a kill attempt by outside-hitter Karym Coleman. Coleman is known to be a star for the Clippers and is an All-Canadian recipient. After more back and forth action in the third set, the Clippers would take it 25-23 with nine total kills. The Kings finished the third set with 11 kills.

With the first three sets being close, the fourth set wasn't going to be any different. Kings biggest lead in the set was a four-point spread. The Clippers would find that extra gear and battle back cutting into Red Deer's lead. But then the Kings offense would over power Briercrest and increase their lead. This would be a continuous loop until the Kings took the fourth and final set 25-22. They finish with 10 kills and two errors. The Clippers would have nine kills and no errors in the fourth set.

Outside-hitter Brett Lower was named player of the game for the Kings who finished off the match with 15 kills. With seven kills and three solo blocks, middler-blocker Tyson Nachtigall was named player of the game for the Clippers.

These two teams will battle it out once again on Saturday, October 15. Tune in to ACACTV at 3 pm.
