Queens avenge last nights loss with a 2-1 win

Lloydminster, November 19 - As the Kings hockey team looks for revenge so do the Queens after dropping a 1-0 double overtime loss against the Lakeland College Rustlers. The Queens offense was shut down by the Rustlers with the home team only given three good scoring opportunities. But that was a different story as the Queens would drive back home from Lloydminster with a 2-1 win and get their revenge they wanted over the Rustlers.

After going scoreless in last nights game with the Rustlers, defenceman Kiera Mulder (Bachelor of Kinesiology) would open the scoring for her Queens on the powerplay. Mulders defence partner Sarah Raymond (Bachelor of Education) and forward Avery Lajeunnesse would get the assists on Mulders first goal of the season at the seven-minute mark of the first period. It was a tripping penalty by the Rustlers that put the Queens on the first powerplay of the game

This would do it for the scoring in the first period with the visiting Queens outshooting the Rustlers slightly 5-2.

Besides one cross-checking penalty by the Rustlers not much happened and the Queens continued to lead 1-0 as well as outshooting Lakeland 11-7.

Eight minutes into the third period, the Queens would get their insurance goal that turned out to be the winning goal. Five-on-five, forward Monica Bowtell was able to set her linemate Jailyn Bablitz up for the second goal for the Queens. This would be Bablitz's third goal of the season and Bowtell's first point on the season.

Rustlers collegiate rookie Laiken Swan out of Plenty, SK would cut into the Queens lead but it just wasn't enough as the Queens would drive home with a 2-1 victory.

The final shots on goal were in favour of the Rustlers in the end with 21 and the Queens had 18. It was definitely all Rustlers in the third period but just could not solve Red Deer's goaltender Madison Fox who made 20 of 21 saves.

Forward Jailyn Bablitz (Bachelor of Education Elementary) was named the Queens player of the game with the game-winning goal.

This was the Queens last game of the semester but stay tuned for an update on when the game against the NAIT Ooks will be made up after it was postponed earlier this month.
