Make it 10 in a row for the Queens!
Edmonton, February 10, 2023 – Make it 10 in a row for the Queens. The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens executed their game plan and won three out of the quarters to extend their impressive winning streak to 10 games after they defeated the NAIT Ooks in their own gym.
As the Queens looked to continue their winning streak, they started out the quarter fast and aggressively proving to North Division team's they are a force to be reckoned with as championships are just three weeks away. The Queens would extend their lead to ten with seconds to go and would take a 21-10 lead into the second quarter.
After a dominant first five minutes into the quarter, the Queens managed to score 12 points and held the Ooks to just two points in that time span. Even with the Queens up by 16 points, they called a timeout after the Ooks finally were able to go on a run of their own and crawl back into the game. RDP held a 36-19 lead as they head to the locker room for the halftime break. The Queens were led by forward Janai Hubert (Bachelor of Kinesiology) with 10 points as she was a force in the paint on the offensive side of things. But going three-for-five from long-range guard Lauren France (Bachelor of Arts in Psychology) was just behind her with nine points.
It was a tight third quarter with just 16 points scored between both teams in the first five minutes of the second half. With just 10 seconds to go, the Queens gave up five points and let the Ooks come within 12 points. After the three-pointer was scored, the Queens got sloppy and turned over the ball in the paint which led to a buzzer-beating basket.
But the Queens started the quarter out very strong and did not look back or let the Ooks crawl back into this game. RDP managed to hold their opponent to just nine points and explode for 19 points in the fourth quarter to win it 75-53.
Forward Janai Hubert was named the Queens player of the game with 16 points and two rebounds. The Queens will head north following the Kings game tonight to take on the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves at 4 pm tomorrow.
