The Kings keep their season alive with a victory over the Rattlers.

Calgary, February 24, 2023 – The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings extended their season with an impressive victory against the Medicine Hat College Rattlers. With this win, the Kings still have hope to make the championship hosted by Ambrose University next weekend.

The last time these two teams faced off was back in November when they were swept back-to-back by the Rattlers which meant the Kings were looking for some revenge as a spot in the playoffs was on the line.

It was definitely a playoff-like game with the Rattlers and the Kings going back and forth down the court trying to pick up any sort of points they can. Medicine Hat would hold a one-point lead over Red Deer Polytechnic as they went off into the second quarter. Forward/guard Eduardo Crespo led his team in points in the opening quarter with just six which goes to show the team is built on teamwork.

As they moved into the second quarter, the fight still was on which was expected as each team was fighting to keep their season alive. The Rattlers would continue to hold on to a one-point lead as they entered the second half in what was more of an offensive quarter with each team dropping 24 points on the opposing squad. At the end of the half, Crespo still led his team in points with 17 points.

The Brazilian student-athlete would be held off the scoresheet in the third quarter but the Kings managed to hold a one-point lead as they entered the final quarter.

This was the Kings best frame of the night as they dropped 24 points and held the Rattlers to just seven points to come away with a 78-60 victory against a Rattlers team, who defeated them twice in the first semester.

Crespo had 24 points in the game and was later named player of the game. Guard Cole Wicker and post Jose Mauro each picked up 15 points on the night in the victory.

They will now move on to their second play-in game in as many nights tomorrow at 6 pm when they take on the St. Mary's University Lightning in Calgary. A win tomorrow night will book their ticket to the championships next weekend.
