Interim head coach named for Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Hockey program
The Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Kings Hockey team will have new head coach behind the bench during the 2025/2026 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) season.
Cody Reynolds, formerly an associate coach with the Kings, has been named interim head coach after Trevor Keeper accepted a head coaching position with the University of Regina Cougars Men's Hockey team in U Sports.
"We are extremely excited to have Cody continue the legacy of excellence of the Kings Hockey program as interim head coach," says Randy Stewart, Manager, Athletics & Student Life, Red Deer Polytechnic. "As an associate coach, Cody played an instrumental role in helping the Kings win three consecutive ACAC Championships. His hard work, ability to communicate with student-athletes and attention to detail will be beneficial to RDP Kings Hockey."
Reynolds brings a wealth of experience both on and off the ice. Since joining the Kings' coaching staff in 2013, he has been a key contributor to the team's success. Under his guidance as associate coach, the Kings secured three consecutive ACAC Championships. Over the past three seasons, they amassed a 45-27 regular season record (0.625) and an impressive 17-2 playoff record (0.895). In its storied history, the RDP Kings Hockey program has claimed 11 ACAC Championships.
"I am extremely excited and grateful to lead the Kings Hockey program at RDP. We have built an incredible culture here over the years and I look forward to continuing the legacy in a new role," says Reynolds. "Red Deer Polytechnic is a place that is close to my heart. I met my wife here in the Education program and we have built a beautiful family while coaching at an institution that started it all for us. I'd like to thank RDP for the opportunity and my family for supporting me as we look to reload for another championship season."
2025 ACAC Champions
Beyond his tenure with the Kings, Reynolds has built an extensive coaching resume. He has served as head coach for the Red Deer Chiefs U18 AAA team and assistant coach with Team Alberta U16 Male during the 2023 Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island. Reynolds will also lead Team Alberta U16 Male at the 2025 Western Hockey League Cup in October.
As a player, Reynolds played defence for multiple junior teams, including the Olds Grizzlys and Lloydminster Blazers of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, as well as the OCN Blizzard of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. His commitment to player development also extends to his leadership role with Lakeside Hockey Development in Sylvan Lake.
