This week in RDC Athletics

The RDC Curling teams will compete for medals at the ACAC Curling Championships this weekend in Camrose. Both volleyball teams will host the Medicine Hat College Rattlers in a pair of matches as they wrap up the regular season at home. The RDC Queens and Kings Basketball teams will play the Ambrose University Lions in a home-and-home series. The Hockey Queens will face-off against the NAIT Ooks in two games to complete their regular season and the RDC Kings Hockey team will challenge the Portage College Voyageurs on the road.

Here is a summary of what is happening this week in RDC Athletics.

 

ACAC Curling Championships | February 16 to 18 | Rose City Curling Club

The RDC Kings, Queens and Mixed Curling teams will compete at the ACAC Curling Championships in Camrose. Joining the RDC Kings (8-2) will be Concordia University of Edmonton (8-2), NAIT (5-5) and the host University of Alberta Augustana Vikings (4-6). The Queens (8-4) will be up against Concordia University (10-2), NAIT (9-3) and MacEwan University (7-5) for gold. The RDC Mixed Curling team (5-5) will battle NAIT (8-2), MacEwan University (7-3) and Portage College (6-4) for top spot.

 

Queens Volleyball | Friday, February 16 | 6:00 p.m. | RDC

The second place Red Deer College Queens (16-6) will host the sixth place Medicine Hat College Rattlers (7-15). Miranda Dawe shares third spot in ACAC Women's Volleyball with 3.30 kills per set.

Briercrest College, RDC, Ambrose University and Lethbridge College have clinched playoff spots from the south.

Queens Volleyball | Saturday, February 17 | 1:00 p.m. | RDC

In a weekend rematch, the RDC Queens will compete against the Rattlers in their final regular season match.

 

Kings Volleyball | Friday, February 16 | 8:00 p.m. | RDC

The Red Deer College Kings (13-9) will compete against the Medicine Hat College Rattlers (13-9) in the RDC Main Gym. As a team, the Kings have averaged 1.29 service aces per set.

Playoff positions are still up for grabs as teams head into their final weekend of the regular season.

Kings Volleyball | Saturday, February 17 | 3:00 p.m. | RDC

The Kings will face the Rattlers in their final regular season match.

 

Queens Basketball | Friday, February 16 | 6:00 p.m. | Ambrose University

The fifth place RDC Queens (9-8) will compete against the eighth place Ambrose University Lions (1-17) on the road. Emily White has averaged the fourth most rebounds per game (11.3) and the fourth best field goal percentage (52.8%) in the league.

The playoff picture has not been fully determined in the south and the Queens are still very much in the mix.

Queens Basketball | Saturday, February 17 | 6:00 p.m. | RDC

The Queens' two game set will wrap up at home against the Lions.

 

Kings Basketball | Friday, February 16 | 8:00 p.m. | Ambrose University

The Kings (10-7) will face the Ambrose University Lions (10-8) on the road. Both teams are tied for third in the south but the Kings have played one less game. While the playoff teams haven't been fully resolved in the south, the Kings still have an opportunity to punch their ticket to the postseason over their remaining games.

Lethbridge College will host the ACAC Men's Basketball Championship March 1 to 3.

Kings Basketball | Saturday, February 17 | 8:00 p.m. | RDC

The Kings will play the Lions on their home court.

 

Queens Hockey | Thursday, February 15 | 7:00 p.m. | NexSource Centre

In Sylvan Lake, the third place RDC Queens (12-5-5-0) will host the first place NAIT Ooks (18-3-1-0). Goaltender Tracie Kikuchi has the second best save percentage (0.941) in ACAC Women's Hockey.

NAIT, MacEwan University, RDC and Olds College have qualified for the postseason.

Queens Hockey | Saturday, February 17 | 6:00 p.m. | NAIT

The Red Deer College Queens will face-off against the NAIT Ooks in Edmonton in their final regular season game.

 

Kings Hockey | Friday, February 16 | 7:00 p.m. | Portage College

In Lac La Biche, the second place RDC Kings (16-6-2-0) will play the eighth place Portage College Voyageurs (2-20-1-1). Tyler Berkholtz shares second spot in league scoring with 30 points.

NAIT, RDC, MacEwan University, University of Alberta Augustana and SAIT have clinched playoff spots.

Kings Hockey | Saturday, February 17 | 1:00 p.m. | Portage College

In a rematch, the Kings will face-off against the Voyageurs.
